The History of Pavlovsk
Catherine the Great originally gifted the land to her son, Paul, as a wedding present. Paul, later Tsar Paul I, and his wife, Maria Feodorovna, oversaw the construction and design of the palace and grounds, which took many years to complete. For Tourists
Inside the palace, you can see the grand state rooms, private apartments, and formal halls, all decorated with precious antiques and works of art. Make sure you check out the Greek Hall, the Italian Hall and the Egyptian Vestibule. You can also see Maria Feodorovna's collection of decorative arts, including her many embroidery pieces. In the park, you can explore the various architectural features, including colonnades, temples and bridges. A lot of the landscape of the park is inspired by English Gardens and landscapes. Look out for the Rose Pavilion, which is a great place for photos. You can also rent bicycles to cycle through the park, or simply sit down on one of the many benches and appreciate the nature. Various cultural events, such as classical music concerts, are held there during summer. Guided tours are available, which provide a more in-depth history and background of the palace.
